Sir Richard Branson has complained to the Government that it risks a re-run of previous rail franchise failures if it awards the West Coast Main Line contract to an unrealistically high bid from FirstGroup.

Gatwick Airport master plan shows flights to increase by 82 every day

LAND equivalent to more than than 900 football pitches is being reserved for a second runway at Gatwick, as flights are scheduled to increase by 82 every day. The airport master plan, released last Thursday, predicts aircraft movements will hit 278,956 per year within the next ten years, compared to 248,679 in 2011/12, and the airport will hit its current capacity by 2030.
